Duncan Honored For Service To State Poultry Committee

Butler County Forestry Planning Committee Wins Award
Butler County received the Outstanding Forestry Planning Committee Award for the Southeast Region during the Alabama Landowners Conference Awards Program Oct. 15 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center. Members received a plaque and a $1,000 cash award. The honor goes to a committee that best exemplifies the mission of the Alabama Natural Resources Council through its programs and activities conducted throughout the past year.

Butler County Student Participates In Alfa Youth Leadership Conference

Butler County Student Studying Agriculture Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Keondre Thomas of Butler County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Butler County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Thomas, who is from Greenville, is a freshman studying animal sciences, pre-vet track. Rogers Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Linda Rogers of Butler County entered her recipe for Bacon Bites in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
1 (16 oz.) package of bacon, cut into 3 ½ inch strips
1 (16 oz.) package of baby link sausage cut into 1-inch pieces
1 (16 oz.) box of light brown sugar
Directions: Wrap bacon strips around sausage piece and secure with toothpick. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place bacon sausage pieces on baking sheet and sprinkle brown sugar over entire baking sheet. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 30-45 minutes or until bacon is done. Makes 45 bacon bites.
Grants Selected As 2018 Finalists For Outstanding Young Farm Family Contest
Chad and Heather Grant of Butler County were finalists for the title of Alabama’s 2018 Outstanding Young Farm Family (OYFF). They were honored at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 46th Commodity Producers Conference in Montgomery Aug. 4. As OYFF finalists, they received $500 from Alabama Ag Credit and Alabama Farm Credit. The Grants have six poultry houses and raise goats on their farm in Fort Deposit. From left are Federation President Jimmy Parnell, Heather, Chad and Alabama Farm Credit’s Taylor Quick.
