Benefield Competes In Annual Young Farmers Discussion Meet Contest
Josh Benefield of Ranburne in Cleburne County was one of 15 competitors in the 2018 Young Farmers Discussion Meet contest at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 46th Commodity Producers Conference in Montgomery Aug. 4. Women’s Leadership Committee Hosts Annual Cookoff
The Cleburne County Farmers Federation board of directors held its monthly meeting June 12 where the Women’s Leadership Committee hosted the annual cooking contest. The dish chosen for the cookoff was a bacon appetizer. The first-place winner was Sharon Ledbetter, left, with her Grilled Bacon Wrapped Chicken. Willie Mae Harris, center, placed second with her Bacon Wrapped Goat Cheese Dates and Jane Harris placed third with her Bacon Wrapped Sriracha Chicken.
2017 Outstanding Young Farm Family Honored At Alabama State House
Eric and Carrly Lovvorn of Cleburne County received a resolution March 20 from the Alabama Legislature as the state’s 2017 Outstanding Young Farm Family.

Local Farmers Elected To Serve On State Commodity Committees

Cleburne County Farmers Federation Recognized With Award For Excellence
The Cleburne County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 4. at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 96th annual meeting in Montgomery. The award recognizes counties excelling in five sections of the Federation: organization, agricultural programs, governmental affairs, and the county’s Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees. Truett Honored With Farmers Federation’s Senior Leader Award
Ashley Truett of Cleburne County received the Senior Leaders Award from the Alabama Farmers Federation during an awards ceremony Dec. 4.
In 1969, Truett was the youngest person ever elected president of a county Farmers Federation. He has served on the Cleburne County Farmers Federation Board of Directors for 48 years. He is also active in the Pine Grove Baptist the Soil and Water Conservation Committee and the Cattlemen’s Association.
Truett and his wife, Linda, have been married 50 years. They also own a certified Alabama TREASURE Forest.

Ledbetter Honored With Award For Service To Farmers Federation
Sharon Ledbetter of Cleburne County received an Individual Leadership Award for public relations and communications from the Alabama Farmers Federation during an awards ceremony Dec. 4.
As the Cleburne County Farmers Federation reporter, Ledbetter has built and maintained a strong relationship with staff at The Cleburne News. To promote the county Federation, she recently created a Facebook page for the organization.
She is responsible for preparing and submitting regular reports on county Federation activities, including the Annual County Report.

Lovvorn Honored With Award For Service To Farmers Federation
Eric Lovvorn of Cleburne County received an Individual Leadership Award in the Young Farmers Division from the Alabama Farmers Federation during an awards ceremony Dec. 4.
After graduating from Class III of the Agricultural Leaders for Alabama Program (A.L.F.A. Leaders), Lovvorn used his leadership skills to develop a successful Young Farmers program in Cleburne County.
He and his family were recently named the 2017 Alabama Outstanding Young Farm Family and will compete for the Achievement Award during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention in Nashville in January 2018. He has also competed in the Alabama Young Farmers Discussion Meet.

Women's Leadership Committee Visits Nursing Home
The Cleburne County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee (WLC) visited the Cleburne County Nursing Home Nov. 6 to deliver care bags the women’s committee donated to the residents. One of the items the women’s committee chose for the bags was handmade lip balm from Eastaboga Bee Company located in Lincoln, Alabama. The women’s committee meets once a month and the care bags for the nursing home residents was the group's project for November. Lovvorns Honored With Special Neighbors Magazine Plaque
Cleburne County’s Eric and Carrly Lovvorn and their children, 2-year old Chloe and 3-month old Lando,n were featured in the September 2017 Neighbors magazine for being named the 2017 Outstanding Young Farm Family. The Lovvorns live near Ranburne and have a four-house poultry farm and cattle. Eric was presented a plaque at the Cleburne County Farmers Federation Board of Director's meeting on Oct. 10.
