County Farmers Visit U.S. Rep In Washington, D.C.

Local Farmers Elected To Serve State Commodity Committees

Elmore County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Elmore County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Elmore County Student Studying Agriculture Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Andrew Palmer of Elmore County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Elmore County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Palmer is a senior studying agriscience education and is from Wetumpka. Palmer Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Melissa Palmer of Elmore County entered her recipe for Bacon Wrapped Pretzels in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Bacon Wrapped Pretzels
2 cups light brown sugar
3 Tbsp. Greek seasoning
1 lb. package regular cut bacon
1lb. package pretzel rods
Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix brown sugar and Greek seasoning together. Cut bacon in half evenly and coat each strip of bacon on both sides with brown sugar mixture. Cut pretzel rods in half, wrap each pretzel with a strip of bacon. Place each bacon pretzel on a wire baking rack. Bake for 20 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Let cool and serve.
