County Farmer Visits U.S. Rep In Washington, D.C.
U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, met with constituents during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s biennial Washington Legislative Conference in the nation’s capital March 5-7. Lamar County's Gilmer Recognized At State Commodity Meeting
Lamar County's Will Gilmer was recognized for serving nine years on the Alabama Farmers Federation State Dairy Committee during the 2019 Commodity Organizational Meeting in Montgomery Feb. 7. Lamar County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Lamar County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Lamar County Student Participates In Alfa Youth Leadership Conference

Lamar County Student Studying Agriculture Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Bryant Byrd of Lamar County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Lamar County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Byrd is a junior studying horticulture and is from Detroit. Buckley Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Donna Buckley of Lamar County entered her recipe for Brown Sugar and Bacon Boneless Pork in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Brown Sugar and Bacon Boneless Pork
2/3 cup brown sugar
3 Tbsp. garlic, minced
¾ tsp. kosher salt
½ Tbsp. black pepper
6 boneless pork chops
12 slices of bacon
Directions: In a large bowl, add brown sugar, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix until combined. Coat pork chop with mixture. Cut pork chops into bite size pieces. Cut bacon into pieces to fit around pork. Place in a 2-inch high baking pan. Top with remaining mixture. Cooke at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Be careful to not let brown sugar burn. Remove from oven, add toothpicks and serve.

Buckley Wins Ribbon In Annual State Sewing Contest
Autumn Buckley of Lamar County won first place in the youth Christmas tree skirt contest at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 46th Commodity Producers Conference in Montgomery Aug. 4. She won $150, courtesy of the Federation’s Women’s Leadership Division.
