Russell County Student Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Benjamin Smith of Russell County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Russell County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Smith is a freshman studying agricultural business and economics and is from Phenix City. Laney Competes In Annual Heritage Cooking Contest
JoAnne C Laney of Russell County entered her recipe for Bacon Wrapped Clubs in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Bacon Wrapped Clubs
2 tubs Club Crackers
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
1 (12 oz.) package bacon
Directions: Spread half of the crackers with cream cheese then top them with the remaining crackers. Cut bacon in half. Wrap bacon around length of crackers. Bake in shallow pan after spraying with some non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until brown.
Martin Brings Home Prize In Annual Tablescapes Contest
Bonnie Martin of Russell County won first place in the tablescapes contest at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 46th Commodity Producers Conference in Montgomery Aug. 4. She won $150, courtesy of the Federation’s Women’s Leadership Division, for her cotton-themed display.
