Tubbs Re-Elected To State Pork Committee

Walker County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Walker County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Walker County's Nail, Forestry Planning Committee Recognized During Alabama Landowners Conference
Brad Nail, center, of Jasper in Walker County received the Tree Inspector of the Year Award during the Alabama Landowners Conference Awards Program Oct. 15 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center. The award honors one inspecting forester with high activity throughout the past year, both in inspections and in outreach and education. Award recipients serve as an inspiration and leader for other inspectors in Alabama’s Tree Farm Program.

The inaugural Alabama Landowners Conference was presented by the Alabama Natural Resources Council, the Alabama Tree Farm Committee and the Alabama TREASURE Forest Association.
At the same awards banquet, Walker County received the Outstanding Forestry Planning Committee Award for the Northwest Region. Members received a plaque and a $1,000 cash award. The honor goes to a committee that best exemplifies the mission of the Alabama Natural Resources Council through its programs and activities conducted throughout the past year.

Walker County Student Participates In Alfa Youth Leadership Conference

Walker County Student Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Noah Runyan of Walker County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Walker County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Runyan is a junior studying forestry is from Jasper. Walker County's Tubbs Graduates From A.L.F.A. Leaders, Competes During Commodity Producers Conference
Daniel Tubbs of Oakman in Walker County graduated from the two-year Agricultural Leaders For Alabama (A.L.F.A. Leaders) program in Montgomery Aug. 2. The 17-member A.L.F.A. Leaders Class IV was recognized at the 46th Commodity Producers Conference hosted by the Alabama Farmers Federation, which sponsors the program. Members attended six institutes from Montgomery to Washington, D.C., to Spain during A.L.F.A. Leaders, which stressed personal development, communication, political involvement and an in-depth understanding of the Federation. From left are Federation President Jimmy Parnell and Tubbs, who is a cattle and swine producer.
Tubbs was also one of seven competitors in the 2018 Young Farmers Excellence in Agriculture contest held Aug. 4 druing the conference. Excellence in Agriculture contestants are involved in agriculture but derive less than half their income from production ag. The competition consists of an application, PowerPoint presentation and question-and-answer session with judges.
