Alabama farmers will get updates on key issues during the Washington Legislative Conference March 5-8.

Registration for the Alabama Farmers Federation’s biannual conference closes Feb. 4 at AlfaFarmers.org.

The meeting kicks off with a dinner cruise along the Potomac River, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Agricultural issue briefings follow the next day, along with the popular congressional barbecue, where Alabama’s elected officials will mingle with constituents. A moonlight tour of national monuments follows.

Day 3 includes breakfast meetings with Alabama’s congressional delegation, where farmers will hear legislative updates from their respective representatives.   Lawmakers will also answer questions from attendees.

The conference includes multiple small-group meetings with elected and agency officials to discuss issues impacting Alabama farmers.

The Federation’s Mitt Walker said the organization is excited to offer this trip for members.

“This is a great chance for farmers and their families to learn about the legislative process and see our nation’s capital in person,” said Walker, the Federation’s National Legislative Programs director. “Farmers can also talk with Alabama’s congressional delegation and focus on issues relevant to their farms, districts and the entire agriculture industry.”
