The Alabama Peanut Producers Association (APPA) held its annual officers elections at the March 6 board meeting in Dothan. Wheat & Feed Grains; Cotton
At workshops in Aliceville and Marion Junction, Wheat & Feed Grains producers learned about automated grain bin management systems and pest and mold control.
The National Cotton Council will host farm bill education meetings. On March 24, the meetings will be at 9 a.m. in Atmore at The Club and 3 p.m. in Troy at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Facility. On March 25, meetings will be at 9 a.m. in Prattville at the Marriott Legends Conference Center and 3 p.m. in Belle Mina at the Tennessee Valley Research Center.

Tuskegee University’s 2014 Goat Day is April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme is “Marketing Matters.” The event includes morning presentations and various field day activities. Lunch will feature goat meat and dairy products. To register, visit tuskegee.edu/goatday.

Alabama’s Conservation Advisory Board is expected to consider recommendations expanding the February deer hunting season to most of south Alabama and reducing daily bag limits for antlerless deer from two to one per day at its meeting in early spring. For more information, visit OutdoorAlabama.com.

A USDA economic study projects a 1.2 percent annual increase in farm sales of horticultural crops over the next decade, reaching $74 billion by 2023. That’s up from $66 billion in 2013.
