Alabama pecan growers are encouraged to cast their ballots during the Alabama Pecan Promotion and Research Checkoff reconfirmation vote May 3 at county Extension offices.
The checkoff, which is reconfirmed every three years, calls for a ½ cent per pound assessment of in-shell pecans produced in Alabama on farms with 15 acres or more of pecan trees.
Checkoff-generated funds are earmarked for promotional campaigns or pecan research and seek to increase consumer awareness and interest in Alabama-grown pecans. Alabama’s Pecan Checkoff was first approved in 2003.
The Alabama Pecan Growers Association board of directors supports the checkoff.
