A bill providing for voluntary registration of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) won final passage Wednesday.
HB 519 by Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, will generate funds for education and training on ATV safety and the development and maintenance of ATV trails. Registration also aids law enforcement in the recovery of stolen vehicles.
The bill establishes a fee structure of $45 for ATVs operated for public use; $15 for private use; $50 for dealer-owned ATVs used for demonstration and testing; and $150 for manufacturer-owned ATVs used for testing. Registration occurs at the point of sale, and the dealer is allowed to deduct $2.50 for processing. A $5 issuance fee applies to all registrations.
