The Alabama Farmers Federation and employees Debra Davis and Marlee Moore won first-place awards at the 19th Annual Ag Media Summit in Snowbird, Utah, July 22-26.
The Federation won first place in the video production category for its Farming Feeds Alabama video. Judges for the national contest gave the video high praise.
“Absolutely gorgeous production values on the video and good choice of interview selections,” one judge said. Another described the farmers in the video as engaging and articulate.
Ag Communications Specialist Marlee Moore won first place for the Best Humorous Article with her story Going Out With A Bang — Holy Smoke Offers Outdoorsmen One Last Shot. Moore’s story was published in the February issue of Neighbors magazine. It features two men who make and sell shotgun shells and cartridges with cremains.
“An incredible story that could very easily run away with the writer into low humor or high pathos,” said one judge, who added, “This story does neither, threading the line deftly between the macabre, the commercial and grief. Very well done!”
Publications Director Debra Davis won first place for a photo of Alabama catfish farmer Bubba Drury. The photo was used to promote U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish in an ad for the Alabama Catfish Producers.
The Ag Media Summit was sponsored by the American Agricultural Editors Association (AAEA), which was founded in 1921. AAEA members are communication professionals serving America’s agribusiness and rural lifestyle enthusiasts
