The George Michael Henry Memorial Scholarship fund has been founded to honor Montgomery County cattle farmer Mike Henry, who passed away this year. Organized by the Alabama Farmers Federation State Beef Committee, this scholarship will benefit Auburn University animal science students. To donate, visit AlabamaFarmersFoundation.org.

Phil Slay’s dog Sue is a finalist in the Farm Dog of the Year contest, sponsored by Purina. To vote for the Chambers County pup for the People’s Choice Award, “like” Sue’s photo on the American Farm Bureau Federation Facebook page.

Alabama cotton is forecast at 1.10 million bales, up 24% from 2018, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports. If realized, this will be Alabama’s highest production since 1948. Yield is forecast at 987 pounds per acre, a pound shy of 2016’s record high.

USDA’s Census of Horticultural Specialties, conducted this winter, will provide a comprehensive picture of the U.S. horticulture industry. Survey codes will be mailed to more than 40,000 producers to respond online.
