Alabama Farmers Federation has endorsed Congressman Barry Moore for re-election to the U.S. Congress, representing District 1.

Federation President Jimmy Parnell praised Moore’s agricultural background and distinguished service both in Congress and the Alabama House of Representatives.

“Congressman Moore is a longtime friend of farmers,” Parnell said. “He grew up on a Coffee County farm and graduated from Auburn University’s College of Agriculture. His desire to help farmers and rural residents was evident during two terms in the Alabama State House. When he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, Congressman Moore sought and won an appointment to the House Committee on Agriculture. In that role, he has been a strong voice for Alabama farmers as he fought to rein in government overreach and advocate for policies giving farm families the freedom to earn a living and ensure America never has to rely on other countries for food and fiber.”

Moore currently represents District 2 but now resides in District 1 following redistricting. His endorsement was unanimously recommended by all county Farmers Federations in Congressional District 1 and approved by executive trustees of the Federation’s political action committees, Alabama FarmPAC and ELECT.

Moore welcomed the Federation’s endorsement.

“It is an honor to serve our Alabama agricultural producers in Congress,” said Moore. “Their tireless efforts feed and fuel our communities. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I will continue to fight to ensure these producers, many of whom are feeling the pinch of slimmer-than-ever margins, get the help they deserve.”

Parnell said Moore’s service on the Ag Committee is especially important as Congress crafts a new farm bill. The 2018 bill expired last year and was extended to Sept. 30.

“It’s critical for Congress to act quickly to reauthorize programs vital to our nation’s food security,” Parnell said. “The farm bill will govern agriculture policy for the next five years, so it’s important they get it right. That means updating reference prices to reflect changes in commodity prices and production costs. We are blessed to have someone with Congressman Moore’s experience and commitment to farmers serving in Washington.”

Moore also serves on the House Judiciary Committee. He is a veteran of the Alabama National Guard and Reserves and a small-business owner. Moore and his wife and business partner, Heather, are the proud parents of four children: Jeremy (Brittany), Kathleen (1st Lt. Jack Whitfield), Claudia and Jeb. They are active members of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise.
