MONTGOMERY, Ala., Oct. 13 — Alabama poultry growers may apply beginning today for a portion of $4 million set aside from state funds received through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES). 

The poultry relief is administered by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) as part of the Alabama Agricultural Stabilization Program (AASP).

Commissioner of Agriculture Rick Pate said poultry relief is available to farmers who grow breeders, broilers and pullets. Visit crf.alabama.gov or agi.alabama.gov to apply by Nov. 6.

Breeder Grower Eligibility:

  • Alabama resident.
  • Documentation showing applicant was a poultry grower of breeder chickens and experienced downtimes over 56 days between March 13 and Oct. 15. Applicant must not have received full compensation from the integrator for these disruptions.
  • ADAI will require each applicant to submit a copy of their W-9; successfully submit application and signed certification and assurances form; and provide a statement describing the square footage of poultry houses on their farm.

Eligible breeder growers will be compensated for increased downtime using the following formula:

Total compensation = (number of days of downtime over 56 days x $0.0075 x number of square feet in poultry houses) minus any compensation paid by the poultry integrator

Broiler Grower Eligibility:

  • Alabama resident.
  • Documentation showing applicant was a poultry grower of broiler chickens and experienced downtimes over 17 days between March 13 and Oct. 15; experienced density reduction of 10% or more during those dates; or experienced both downtimes and density reduction during those dates. All qualifying flocks produced between March 13 and Oct. 15 are eligible. Applicant must not have received full compensation from the integrator for these disruptions.
  • ADAI will require each applicant to submit a copy of their W-9; successfully submit application and signed certification and assurances form; provide applicable settlement sheets for each flock; and provide a statement describing the square footage of poultry houses on their farm.

Eligible broiler growers will be compensated for increased downtime using the following formula:

Total compensation = (number of days of downtime over 17 days x $0.005 x number of square feet in poultry houses) minus any compensation paid by poultry integrator

Eligible broiler growers will be compensated for density reduction of 10% or more using the following formula:

Total compensation = (% density cut x contracted rate* of pay x pounds sold) minus any compensation paid by poultry integrator. *Contracted rate of pay is also known as base rate of pay

Pullet Grower Eligibility:

  • Alabama resident.
  • Documentation showing applicant was a poultry grower of pullet chickens and experienced downtimes over 42 days between March 13 and Oct. 15. Applicant must not have received full compensation from the integrator for these disruptions.
  • ADAI will require each applicant to submit a copy of their W-9; successfully submit application and signed certification and assurances form; and provide a statement describing the square footage of poultry houses on their farm.

Eligible pullet growers will be compensated for increased downtime using the following formula:

Total compensation = (number of days of downtime over 42 days x $0.002 x number of square feet in poultry houses) minus any compensation paid by poultry integrator
