The Alabama Farmers Federation launched a new campaign during its 82nd annual meeting Dec. 7-8 in Mobile that will raise money to help advance the policies of the state’s largest farm organization. The President’s Club offers Federation members a chance to pledge their financial support to ELECT, the organization’s political action committee. In introducing the fundraising campaign, Federation Executive Director Mike Kilgore quoted Henry Ford who said, “Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success.””In 2006, a governor and state legislature will be elected,” Kilgore said. “Getting ready requires thinking ahead so we recognize today what we will need tomorrow in order to succeed.”Kilgore said the President’s Club gives members a chance to prepare for the future by being part of a group of individuals who are committed to improving the way of life for farmers and all Alabamians. There are three levels of participation. Bronze members pledge to contribute $100 a year for three years (about 30 cents a day); silver members will give $500 a year for three years; and gold members will commit to $1,000 per year for three years. All President’s Club members will receive a lapel pin.”Farmers formed this organization in 1921 in order to advance programs that would benefit farming,” Kilgore said. “In 1921, the majority of the state was in farming. That is no longer true today. You are the minority. For agriculture’s voice to remain strong–for this organization to be successful in advancing the policies you vote on at the annual meeting–we must be financially prepared for the future.”In addition to financial support, the President’s Club gives members an opportunity to volunteer their time to advance the policies of the organization. “While the modern world says to get what you can from life, farmers know better than anyone else that we were created to add life while on earth,” Kilgore said. “It is what we leave behind and give to future generations that is the true determining factor of our worth. The President’s Club will allow us to make a difference as we collectively support the political strength of this organization.”To become a member of the President’s Club, complete the form at the bottom of this page and send it with your first contribution to: President’s Club, Alabama Farmers Federation, P.O.
