Alfa Foundation Awards 100 College Scholarships
June 2, 2015 |

The Alfa Foundation has awarded scholarships to 100 Alabama college students, representing 46 counties and 24 schools. Each winner received a $1,000 scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year.

More than 1,300 students applied for the competitive scholarship program, administered by Scholarship America®.

“In our household, we know the impact of rising tuition costs,” said Jimmy Parnell, president of Alfa Insurance. “Our son recently graduated college and our daughter will be a college freshman this fall. We hope these scholarships will make it easier for students to focus on studies and gain professional experience, rather than worry about paying for their education.”

Scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies required for coursework.

Scholarship America based its selection on academics, participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience and future goals.

The Alfa Foundation Scholarship Program started in 2014 with 50 scholarship winners. For almost 70 years, Alfa Insurance has proudly supported education in the communities it serves.
