The songs of country music great Patsy Cline will come to life at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 32nd Annual Commodity Producers Conference as Alfa Health sponsors a tribute to the legendary performer by Nashville recording artist Logan Wells.The live performance on the evening of Saturday, July 31, will cap the three-day conference, which will be held at the HealthSouth Conference Center in Birmingham.Commodity Department Director Jim Cravey said this year’s conference has something for just about everyone.”Our staff has planned an excellent series of tours and seminars, which not only spotlight some of the state’s premier farm operations, but also include recreational opportunities for Federation members,” Cravey said. “On Friday, participants can choose from five tours that will visit everything from row crop and livestock farms to horticulture and greenhouse operations. Other scheduled stops include Blue Bell Creameries, DeSoto Caverns, Oak Mountain State Park, the American Village and Morgan Creek Vineyards.”The conference will kick off on Thursday, July 29, with a Farm-City training seminar, a beef production update and a legislative and congressional update. That evening, participants will attend a welcome banquet.On Friday, tour buses will depart the HealthSouth Conference Center at 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided at one of the tour stops.Saturday’s activities will include the Women’s Committee Luncheon and Cotton Fashion Show as well as a rotating schedule of six seminars. Participants can choose to attend three of the seminars beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at noon. Seminars planned for the conference are: Fine Tuning Communication Skills, Economic and Environmental Challenges, Alabama AgriTourism, Women in Agriculture, The Changing Face of Agriculture and Laws, Liability and Litigation.On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Federation’s Long Range Planning Committee will give its report to members, and the closing banquet featuring Wells’ tribute to Patsy Cline will begin at 6:30 p.m.The registration deadline for this year’s conference is July 9, and tickets are required for all tours and meals.
