Annie Dee Competes For Southeastern Farmer Of The Year At Expo
Alabama Farmer of the Year Annie Dee is among the top farmers in the Southeast competing for the 2013 Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award.
The winner will be named Oct. 15 at the Sunbelt Agriculture Expo luncheon in Moultrie, Ga. – home of North America’s premier farm show.
Annie and her brother, Mike Dee, share ownership of the 10,000-acre diversified farm in Pickens County with their 10 brothers and sisters. Alabama Farmers Federation Area Organization Director Matthew Durdin nominated her for the state farmer of the year award.
As the state winner, the Dees received more than $14,000 in prizes including an engraved farm sign from the Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance; a John Deere Gator from SunSouth, TriGreen and Snead Ag Supply dealers; a $1,000 gift certificate from Alabama Farmers Cooperative; a $2,500 cash award from Swisher International; a $500 gift certificate from the Southern States cooperative; the choice of $1,000 in PhytoGen cottonseed or a $500 donation to a designated charity from Dow AgroSciences; and a Columbia vest from Ivey’s Outdoor and Farm Supply.
The Southeastern Farmer of the Year will receive $15,000, the use of a Massey Ferguson tractor for a year, a Heritage gun safe and numerous other prizes.
Swisher International, through its Swisher Sweets cigar brand, and the Sunbelt Expo are sponsoring the Southeastern Farmer of the Year awards for the 24th consecutive year.
