Broadband Easement Bill Supported By Electric Cooperatives
The Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives is supporting legislation to expand rural broadband by allowing electric providers to use easements for advanced communications networks.
HB 400 by Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Cullman, would would authorize the placement, construction, installation, operation and use of broadband within electric easements by electric providers. It also would allow electric providers to operate broadband systems or authorize others to do so.
The measure passed the House Urban and Rural Development Committee, which Shedd chairs, Thursday.
