Legislation has been introduced in the Senate and House of Representatives aimed at eliminating the confusion and enforcement differences related to Alabama’s deer and feral swine baiting laws. 

SB 61 by Sen. Gerald Dial, R-Lineville, exempts whitetail deer and feral swine from laws related to hunting with bait. It also allows the landowner, or others authorized in writing by the landowner, to feed deer and swine, provided the grain is not placed on the ground. The bill has been assigned to the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.

In the House, Rep. Jack Williams, R-Wilmer, has introduced HB 21, which would allow hunters to purchase a license to hunt deer and feral swine over bait. The annual bait privilege license fee would be $14 plus a $1 issuance fee. Williams’ bill has been assigned to the House Agriculture and Forestry Committee.
