John H. Dorrill Jr. of Montgomery died Jan. 28. He was 90.

Dorrill was former executive director of the Alabama Farmers Federation and retired in 1998. He was a former Pike County Farmers Federation president, Alabama TREASURE Forest Association president and Alabama Forestry Council president.

He was past chairman of the Alabama and National Farm-City Committees and past district governor of Alabama District Kiwanis International.

In 2003, Dorrill received the Federation’s Special Service To Agriculture Award — the highest award given by the state’s largest farm organization.

In 2006, the Auburn University graduate was inducted into the Alabama Agriculture Hall of Honor.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anderson Dorrill; sons, John H. Dorrill III (Sonjua) and Lee A. Dorrill (Lynn); daughter, Rachel Dorrill Batrez; and six grandchildren, Haylee, Chloe, Cameron, Collin, Clay and Anna Claire.

Howard Keeton of Cherokee died Jan. 2. He was 83.

Keeton was a Colbert County Farmers Federation board member.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Nelson Keeton; children, Deborah Keeton and Neal Keeton (Heather); and a granddaughter, Katelin.

Robert Lauderdale of Elkmont died Dec. 17. He was 88.

He served on the Limestone County Farmers Federation board.

Lauderdale was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Marsh Lauderdale. He is survived by his son, Bobby Lauderdale (Elaine); his daughter, Dr. Donna Lauderdale Lemay (Anthony); three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. 

Buster Thornton of Rogersville died Dec. 7. He was 83.

Thornton served on the Lauderdale County Farmers Federation board and was a crop duster and cattle farmer. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Thornton; sons, Jason Thornton (Beverly), Mark Thornton and Randy Thornton (Faye); stepdaughter, Renee Sandy (Ricky); stepson, Roy Pigg; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
