Paul Pinyan is the executive director of the Alabama Farmers Federation and general manager of Alfa Services, Inc. As executive director, he manages the staff of the Alabama Farmers Federation and assists the president in promoting agriculture and working to stabilize the farm economy.
Prior to his appointment effective February 2010, he served as director of the Governmental Affairs Department, having been appointed to that post in 2007.
Mr. Pinyan began his career with Alfa Farmers as an area organization director in 1998, and had worked 10 years as an agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System overseeing youth and adult livestock programs. In 2000, Pinyan moved to the Department of Governmental Affairs as director of agriculture and environmental legislation. He was named assistant director of that department in 2004.
Mr. Pinyan holds a bachelor’s degree in animal and dairy science from Auburn University, a master’s degree from Alabama A&M University in agribusiness education and a juris doctorate from Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law. A native of Holly Pond in Cullman County, Mr. Pinyan grew up on the family’s cattle and poultry farm near the Cullman-Blount County line. He began showing 4-H calves at age 9, eventually boasting the reserve grand champion at the state steer show.
Mr. Pinyan is a member of the Alabama State Bar and Agriculture & Forestry LEADERS.
Mr. Pinyan currently resides in Auburn with wife, the former Kristie Smith, and their two sons, Andrew and Will.
