Hale County native Shelby Marsh will beef up her organizational, livestock show and agricultural skillset as the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Junior Beef Expo (JBE) intern.

The Auburn University (AU) junior will intern through JBE, the state’s premier cattle show, March 18-20.

Marsh, 20, brings firsthand experience to her JBE internship. She grew up showing livestock, exhibited in the JBE and was raised on a catfish, cattle and sheep farm in Greensboro. She’s also an Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation scholarship recipient.

“Growing up surrounded by agriculture has given me a strong passion for the industry,” said Marsh, who is studying animal science at AU. “I’m very excited to work on an event such as the JBE that allows the youth of Alabama to show off their hard work.”

Her role at the Federation will include working with Beef Division Director Brady Ragland to input data, communicate with exhibitors and ready the ring for the show.

“Shelby will get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to plan and coordinate the state’s largest and most prestigious cattle show,” Ragland said. “Her background makes her well suited for this role, and I’m excited to have her join our team.”

At AU, Marsh is involved in Young Farmers, Collegiate Cattlemen and the Block & Bridle Club. She also works at the Meats Lab and assists with a local veterinarian in Greensboro. Earlier this year, she incorporated her cattle business, Legacy Livestock LLC.

Marsh graduated from Southern Academy in 2018 and is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Marsh.
