More Than 900 Attend Commodity Conference

More than 900 farmers toured some of Alabama’s best farms and agribusiness operations during the 32nd Annual Alabama Farmers Federation Commodity Producers Conference in Birmingham July 29-31.A change in the conference format included general agricultural tours to a variety of farm operations and agribusinesses plus several seminars. Whether it was a cattle ranch in Cullman County, a turf farm in Shelby County or the Blue Bell Creamery in Talladega County, farmers enjoyed some of the best of Alabama agriculture.”Our members told us they wanted to try something different at this year’s conference, and we’re pleased that they liked the results,” said Federation Commodity Director Jim Cravey.In addition to the tours on Friday, seminars were held Saturday at the HealthSouth Conference Center that covered topics such as emerging agricultural programs, women in agriculture, media training and agritourism.The conference also included the Federation’s State Women’s Committee luncheon and Cotton Fashion Show. Saturday’s closing banquet featured a tribute to country music great Patsy Cline that was sponsored by Alfa Health.Next year’s Commodity Conference is set for July 28-31 at the Columbus, Ga., Convention and Trade Center.
