“American Agriculture: Abundant, Affordable, AMAZING” is the theme for National Ag Week this March 14-20, a celebration which also includes National Ag Day on March 20 — the first day of spring.Many of the Ag Day events and resources traditionally used to deliver agriculture’s message to consumers across the country and decision-makers in the nation’s capitol will remain the same. This year, however, Ag Day is also going viral as the committee will launch a blog, video and social media campaign to reach more people than ever.”The focus for 2010 and beyond is to capture the attention of consumers who think they have no relationship to agriculture,” said Linda Tank, Ag Day committee chairman.”Our new campaign reinforces that American agriculture is a part of all of us.”Ag Day will also be celebrated in Washington, D.C., with an Ag Day luncheon and “Celebration of Ag” dinner March 18 with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack as the featured guest.From a team of horses in the early 1900s to tractors with the power of 40 to 300 horses today, American farmers provide consumers with more and better quality food than ever before. In fact, one farmer now supplies food for about 155 people in the United States and abroad compared with just 46 people in 1960.The efficiency of American farmers pays off in the price American consumers pay for food as well.
