Alabama beef cattle producers have a new way to promote their livestock, thanks to a website recently launched by the Alabama Feeder Cattle Council (AFCC) in cooperation with the Alabama Farmers Federation. This new website allows producers throughout the state to advertise quality feeder cattle and replacement heifers on a much broader scale.”The major objective of the organization is to utilize the far-reaching capabilities of the Internet to advertise Alabama’s top feeder cattle to western and mid-western feedyards,” said Perry Mobley, director of the Alabama Farmers Federation Beef Division and administrator of the website. “Realizing the growth in computer and Internet usage by all segments of agriculture, the group [AFCC] could see no better way to reach its customers.”Cattle owners may post information about livestock they are planning to sell, including information on the breeder, weight, sale date, vaccination history and more.Interested buyers may then contact the seller directly to arrange a purchase. Cattle owners interested in advertising on the site must pay a $25 one-year membership fee and 50 cents per animal listed. Advertisers also must meet specific requirements spelled out within the website. The site also features free cattle alert e-mails. Feedyards or buyers may sign up for e-mail notification of new lots posted on the site. This keeps buyers informed of the latest additions to the site, and farmers benefit because more people will find out about their cattle.AFCC is composed of cattle producers from different feeder associations, stockyards and extension agents and other individuals who want to promote the best beef cattle Alabama has to offer. The website, www.alfeedercattle.org, was launched in early July.It is hosted by the Alabama Farmers Federation website, www.alfafarmers.org, and may be accessed through the Federation’s Beef Division web page at www.alabamabeefproducers.com.
