JOHNNY KNOWS IT
Ingredients
2 medium onions, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
3-4 stalks celery, chopped
1/4 stick margarine
2 pounds ground beef
Macaroni from 1 (7.25-ounce) box macaroni and cheese (4 cups cooked macaroni)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15-ounce) can small English peas, drained
1 1/2 cups grated Cheddar cheese, divided
Preparation
Sauté onions, pepper and celery in margarine until tender in a Dutch oven. Add ground beef and cook, stirring to crumble, until meat is browned. Drain. Prepare noodles according to box directions. Add to meat mixture. Stir in soup, tomato sauce and peas. Mix well. Set aside 1 cup of cheese and stir remaining cheese into casserole, blending well. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, sprinkling with remaining 1 cup cheese in the last 10 minutes of baking. Makes 8-10 servings. (Freezes well.)
