1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese, divided
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
2 tablespoons butter, melted

In a small skillet, sauté onion in butter until tender; set aside. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl. Add sautéed onion and 1/2 cup of the cheese, blending well. In a small bowl, combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture and stir together well. Spread dough in a greased 8-inch round baking pan. Sprinkle top with remaining cheese and the poppy seeds. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot.
