BLACKBERRY YUM-YUM COBBLER

Ingredients

1 stick butter
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/3 cup milk
2 cups frozen blackberries
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in oven in a 9- x13-inch pan. In a saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium heat until sugar melts; set aside. In a bowl, cut shortening into flour. Add milk and stir lightly. Knead dough four to five times on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick. Place blackberries in a bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon; sprinkle berries over dough. Roll up like a jellyroll. Slice dough into 1/2-inch slices. Place slices in pan over melted butter. Pour sugar syrup around rolls. Bake 55 to 60 minutes. Serve warm, with cream, if desired.
