Ingredients

1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter-flavored solid vegetable shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 stick butter, melted
6 ounces orange marmalade
1/4 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, soda and granulated sugar; cut in shortening until mixture is consistency of coarse meal. Add the buttermilk and mix gently. Turn out on a well-floured surface; roll to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and brown sugar; set aside. Dip biscuits in melted butter to coat, then in sugar mixture, one at a time. Grease a 9- x 13-inch pan and spread marmalade in bottom. Sprinkle with nuts. Place biscuits over nuts. Sprinkle leftover cinnamon sugar on top. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Invert onto plate. Makes 12 biscuits.
