BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE

Ingredients

1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon butternut flavoring

Preparation

Mix baking soda in buttermilk and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar well in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time. Alternately add flour and buttermilk until mixed, add flavoring. Pour into greased tube pan and bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Cool in pan.
