3 cups sugar
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, divided
5 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 (8-inch) pie shells, partially baked
Combine sugar, flour and 3/4 cup of the buttermilk, blending well. Beat in eggs and remaining 3/4 cup buttermilk. Stir in butter and vanilla. Divide mixture between two pie shells. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour, or until a knife inserted in center of pies comes out clean. Cover pies with foil near the end of baking time if crusts are browning too quickly.
