CHEESE-APPLE CRISP

Ingredients

5 cups peeled, sliced apples
2/3 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2/3 cup plain flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter or margarine, chilled
1 cup grated American cheese
Ice cream or whipped topping

Preparation

Arrange apple slices in a greased 9- x 9-inch pan. Combine cinnamon with 1/4 cup sugar. Sprinkle over apples. Pour water around apples. Combine remaining 3/4 cup sugar, flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Lightly stir in cheese. Sprinkle flour-cheese mixture over apples. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 55 minutes. Serve warm topped with ice cream or whipped topping. Makes 8-10 servings.
