Ingredients
1/4 cup plain flour
1 cup milk
Dash of salt
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Preparation
Gradually combine flour and milk in a saucepan, stirring until smooth; add salt. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture becomes a thick paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely. (Hint: Prepare this before baking the cake.) After cake cools, cream butter, sugar and shortening together until fluffy. Add paste mixture and vanilla and beat with electric mixer until smooth and fluffy.
