Ingredients

1 envelope dry active yeast (not rapid-rise) or 1 tablespoon instant yeast
1/2 cup warm water (105-115 degrees)
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup sugar
1 stick butter (not margarine)
1 large egg, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1 stick melted butter

Preparation

Combine yeast and warm water in a small bowl; let stand about 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine boiling water, sugar and butter, stirring until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Add yeast and beaten egg to sugar mixture, blending well. Add salt. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Cover bowl with a cloth; refrigerate 4-6 hours. Turn dough onto a floured surface. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness; cut in 2-inch rounds. Dip rounds in melted butter, and fold in half. Place rolls, sides not touching, in two 9- x 13-inch pans. Let rise 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, until golden brown. (To freeze: Do not allow rolls to rise. Immediately wrap pans of unbaked rolls and place in freezer. When ready to bake, let rolls thaw completely, about 4 hours, then let rise at least 1 hour after thawing. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.) Makes 3 dozen.
