MITZI’S STRING BEANS
1 gallon home-canned string beans or 1 (100-ounce) can cut green beans
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons salt
1/2 cup bacon grease or 4 beef or chicken bouillon cubes
Drain beans well. If using store-bought beans, rinse well to wash off liquid. Place in a 5- or 6-quart Dutch oven. Add remaining ingredients. Cover tightly. Bring to a boil over high heat, and cook on high for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer beans 30 minutes-1 hour. (Can be cooked in pressure cooker; reduce water to 1/2 cup.) Makes 20 servings.
