CALICO BEANS
Ingredients
1 (16-ounce) can pork and beans
1 (16-ounce) can kidney beans, drained
1 (16-ounce) can butterbeans
1 (16-ounce) can cut green beans, drained
1/2 pound bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed, or 1/4 teaspoon minced dried garlic
1 tablespoon margarine
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons Worchestershire sauce
Dash of hot sauce
Preparation
Combine beans in a large bowl; set aside. In a skillet over high heat, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet and place on paper towel to drain. Pour grease from skillet. Over medium high heat, saute onion and garlic in margarine until tender. Add ground beef and cook until beef is browned; drain. Add beef mixture to bean mixture, along with brown sugar, ketchup, salt, Worchestershire and hot sauce. Pour into an aluminum roasting. Sprinkle cooked bacon over top. Bake on grill over high heat for 1 hour. (Casserole can be placed in a greased 2- quart casserole and baked in oven at 400 degrees for 1 hour.) Makes 8-10 servings.
