Ingredients

1- to 1 1/2 pounds round steak
2 tablespoons oil, divided
2 medium onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
2-3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup water
Hot cooked rice

Preparation

Trim fat from steak. Cut steak into 1/2-inch strips. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak and brown. Remove steak from skillet. Add remaining oil; add onions and garlic and cook, stirring, until onion is tender and transparent. Return steak to pan. Add soy sauce, sugar and water. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, or until steak is tender, adding more water if needed. Serve meat and pan drippings over rice. Makes 4-6 servings.
