OLD-TIMEY DRIED APPLE STACK CAKE

Ingredients

1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
3 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup milk
4 cups Dried Apple Filling (recipe follows)

Preparation

In a large bowl, cream butter, gradually adding sugar and molasses; beat until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating gently after each. Combine flour, soda, salt and ginger. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Be careful not to overmix. Divide batter among six greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes, or until layers test done. Be careful not to overbake. Remove layers from pans and cool on wire racks. Stack layers, spreading 1/2 cup Dried Apple Filling between each. Let stand 8 hours before serving.
