The Alabama Farmers Federation joined lawmakers and others in mourning the death last week of Rep. Dimitri Polizos, R-Montgomery. 

Polizos was elected to the District 74 seat in a December 2013 special election and was twice re-elected by voters. He was endorsed by the Federation’s FarmPAC.

He was known as the affable and ever-present owner of Mr. Gus’ Ristorante on the Atlanta Highway in Montgomery. 

Gov. Kay Ivey set the primary election to fill Polizos’ vacant seat for Tuesday, June 11, 2019, with the runoff to be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019, and general election Tuesday, November 12, 2019. The qualifying deadlines are Tuesday, April 9, 2019, for major parties and June 11, 2019, for minor parties and independent candidates.
