Tim Wood of Selma, Ala., has been appointed to the Alabama Conservation Advisory Board by Governor Kay Ivey.

Wood, the general manager of the Central Alabama Farmers Cooperative in Selma, has been actively involved in outdoor recreation and the industry supported by hunting and fishing in Alabama.

Wood currently serves as one of four co-chairs for Hunting Works for Alabama, a grassroots group who inform the public about the enormous impact hunters have on the state’s economy.

“You’re talking about a $1.8 billion industry in Alabama,” Wood said. “You’re talking about $375 million that people spend on just hunting-related equipment. Travel expenses, hunters are spending about $405 million a year. That’s travel, fuel, food and lodging. In the rural parts of the state, that is extremely important. If they didn’t have the tax dollars and economic benefits from hunting in these rural areas, it would be devastating.”

Wood, a member of the Alabama Agribusiness Council Foundation and a state board member with the Alabama Wildlife Federation, was a three-year letterman in football at Auburn University. Wood will represent Congressional District 7 on the Conservation Advisory Board. His appointment expires Sept. 30, 2023.

Conservation Commissioner Chris Blankenship welcomed Wood to the board.

“Tim Wood has been involved with both the recreational and business side of the outdoors in Alabama,” Blankenship said. “Tim is an avid hunter and angler, and he has transformed the Central Alabama Farmers Co-Op in Selma into a business that caters to the hunting community. His work with Hunting Works for Alabama and the Alabama Wildlife Federation proves he is dedicated to promoting and improving the outdoors experience in our great state.”

Wood is married to the former Susan Jones of Selma. They have two daughters, Blaire and Elizabeth.
