The 2018 Census of Aquaculture will be conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Questionnaires were mailed this month.

To be more efficient for producers, the annual Catfish Survey will be collected through the Census of Aquaculture this year. The Census of Aquaculture is conducted once every five years to expand on aquaculture data collected during the 2017 Census of Agriculture. This will provide a more comprehensive picture of the aquaculture sector at national and state levels.

Detailed results about aquaculture production and economic value will provide valuable information for decisions about policies and programs. Specific results for catfish will be released Feb. 15 in the Catfish Production Report. Additional aquaculture findings will be released in the comprehensive Census of Aquaculture report on Oct. 10.
