Alabama Young Farmers wrapped up 2017 contests when Ethan Mobley of Franklin County won the Discussion Meet at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 96th annual meeting in Montgomery Dec. 4.

Mobley, a freshman studying biosystems engineering at Auburn University, beat out three final-round competitors to win a four-wheeler courtesy of First South Farm Credit.

“During our competition, I was excited to help find solutions to some of today’s largest issues facing agriculture,” Mobley said. “I’m grateful to First South for this awesome prize and the Federation for the chance to represent Alabama in the national contest.”

Other finalists were Landon Marks, Cherokee County; Hunter Garnett, Morgan County; and Kyle Morris, Cullman County. The final four, named at the Commodity Producers Conference in August, each received a Yeti cooler for their work simulating a committee discussion of agriculture hot topics.

The 2017 Outstanding Young Farm Family (OYFF) and Excellence in Agriculture winners, also named in August, received their prizes at the annual meeting.

OYFF Eric and Carrly Lovvorn of Cleburne County were presented a prize package worth more than $60,000. The Lovvorns have two children, Chloe, 2, and Landon, 7 months, and raise poultry near Heflin. As OYFF, they received $35,000 toward a new Ford vehicle courtesy of Alfa Insurance; a John Deere 825i Gator from Alabama Ag Credit and Alabama Farm Credit; and a lease on a John Deere tractor from John Deere and local dealers.

Excellence in Agriculture contest winner Andrew Brock of Marshall County was presented a zero-turn mower courtesy of Dow Agrosciences and a computer package from Valcom/CCS Wireless.

Contest winners will represent Alabama during the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in Nashville, Tennessee, this month.
