ORANGE SLICE CAKE
Ingredients
2 sticks butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, divided
1 teaspoon soda
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 pound golden raisins
1 pound orange slice candy, halved
2 cups chopped mixed nuts
Icing (recipe follows)
Preparation
Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add 1 cup buttermilk; beat well. In a small bowl, stir together remaining 1/2 cup buttermilk and baking soda, then add to creamed mixture. Combine flour and salt and blend into creamed mixture. Stir in raisins, chopped orange slice candy and nuts, blending well. Line a 10-inch tube pan with brown paper; grease paper and pan well. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 275 degrees for 2 1/2 hours, until cake tests done. Pour Icing over hot cake in pan. Allow cake to cool in pan before inverting onto serving plate.
